Cliffhanger is a memoir told through prose and poetry. A time piece exploring my early twenties, leaving “home”, going to university, traveling the world, dating and falling in love with a boy in a foreign country, all whilst grieving losing my first boyfriend to suicide. This book is broken up into 5 chapters which are the 5 countries that I lived in throughout that period in my life.
My aim with Cliffhanger is to showcase a portrayal of a 20-something-year-old LGBTQ+ individual navigating the complexities of life. The story is painted through a variety of poems about love, heartbreak, being a misfit, and finding your place in the world. Some poems are quirky, funny and light-hearted, others are dark, depressing and thought-provoking. For some suicide is about ending a journey, his suicide started the aftermath of mine.
